Post Very persistent 903 error (SOLVED; BitDefender issue)
Never had an issue on my old computer, but it's been a full year since then, so...

Anyway, I keep getting the 903 error when I try to download the patch.

So I've tried pretty much everything at this point. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, allowing all the related programs through my firewall (and just turning off the firewall entirely), opening every port it tries to go through, making exceptions in my antivirus, and nothing has worked so far.

Also I noticed that in the download thread, the first DDL link doesn't come with a Vista.exe file, but the second one from the installer does. And I have tried doing everything with both of them.

Can anyone help me shed some light on this?

EDIT: Just to clarify, yes I'm sure it's the right PsoBB.exe. Also another similar thread said that Hamachi was causing a similar issue, but nothing changed when I shut Hamachi down.

gamebooster may also cause this issue. It may have too many options on by default. So you can try shutting that down as well.

Also clean your registry and restart your computer.

You can also run a ping test to see if your are lagging way to much and timing out.

Did the ping test a couple times as well, it was hovering around 100. And I believe that .exe is the same as the one I'm using. Either way, not working. As for Game Booster, I don't believe I have that. Unless it's integrated into the game already.

I'll try cleaning my registry, since now that you mention it I think that might be the issue.

...Nope, nothing with the registry.

EDIT: Trying something different with it now...

Okay, to recap everything in one post...

903 error. The error comes up almost instantly, so it is not a timeout issue.
The client files have been replaced properly.
A clean install does not work (clean install being uninstalling and deleting all files from the previous installation, as well as all registry items before reinstalling).
Turning off the firewall and letting things through it have done nothing. Opening ports has done nothing either.
No other applications have been causing any noticeable interference.
The registry has repeatedly been cleaned, both manually and with a tool.
Creating exceptions in my antivirus has done nothing. Neither has turning the antivirus off entirely.

The kicker is that I was on another server just fine. So it simultaneously is only on my end and only on the server's end. Somehow.

Got it working, yay.

Anyway, the issue was with BitDefender. Opening ports in Windows Firewall won't do anything on its own, since BitDefender will still block them. You need to go through and change BitDefender's firewall settings which will automatically block PsoBB.exe from connecting to the patch server.

It won't let you create a new rule for it either. You need to go through and find the rule for PsoBB.exe marked "DENY" and change it to "Allow".

Naturally, temporarily turning off BitDefender's antivirus won't do anything either, since BitDefender's firewall runs independently of that.
