Aaaaaaaaah, I'm required to do this for a class, so please share your opinions on the matter.

I don't think they should be able to for the exact reason that's said. Free speech in any way, shape, or form should be left uncensored.

Weeding out the bad will take the good with it. Plus, as much as bodies such as governments may seem like faceless entities and perhaps beyond human in terms of their power and knowledge, I don't trust any group of individuals - certainly the group of aged crones there - to regulate what the rest of the world can see or do.

Ah the ask the student a question without enough detail to the question class.

Classes like this usually end up in polls so I am not really surprised.

Mainly due to the original student asked not having an opinion on the matter asked.

Or perhaps the student will have free thought and have an opinion but would end up lecturing the class with their own ideals. Which is really the point of the class. Not gathering poll data.

The main point is to freely share and exchange ideals between the other students who have free thoughts. Instead of just gathering statistics from others. Although statistics can be helpful in explanations they are not really needed. As the focus should be more on the student's ideals on the question asked. If anything gathering statistics could cloud ones judgment. If the student's mind can be easily swayed due to the consensus of a group. Which takes away from the learning experience somewhat.

---

Without more information on this particular question though the answer is no.

If we have to host the Internet on mars, or some other planet to get away from any government trying to take control over it then by all means lets do that.

The only way to say yes it should be censored in this case is if more information was attached to the question such as... The information to be censored is a real a threat to that nations security. However such information has no reason to be on a generally publicly accessible Internet in the 1st place. And if it does somehow happen to make it's way there then it is time to kill off some of your double agents.

Remember folks many laws are just an invention of man.

The purpose of this part of the assignment is entirely to gather statistics, and possibly some particular strong points that I could cite as well.

I didn't want to give my opinions on the matter as I don't wish to have it influence the data itself.

Would require too much of an entire world effort.

Censorship is fine if it's in the scope of a site's rules, a parent over their kid, a school over their students, and other small things like that. But there should be absolutely no blanket rule for censorship. One individual cannot decide that a particular site is bad and should be blocked for an entire country.

On a side note: screw the senate for even letting the blacklist bill get as far as it has. I hope Ron Wyden reading all of the names of opponents of censorship does at least something.

If this is in relation to the SOPA. Bill then i am Fully against it. In fact I am writing an argumentation paper on it.

I didn't want to spend brains on this, but I WANT TO BE CITED!! D: So i'll make my best to earn it xD

There are actually two questions into this and I might introduce the concept of problem reposing into the argument.
First: If there are censorable stuff out there on the internet. As in any matter, of course there'll be, now,
Second: as it's allready been said, who is a person to dicede what?

Instead of asking which sites should be censored, we should be asking how to teach kids a proper usage of this media.

I dislike extreme censorship - and that is censorship done without reason or to purposely dumb down the population affected by said censorship. It's basically, "we'll prevent you from seeing certain information because we don't want you to see it for some reason."

Now, that being said, I'm not opposed to limited use of it, and appropriate use of it. Appropriate being the key word; generally, I'm referring to censorship deemed appropriate by the community and other factors; not just the people in power. Censorship used as means to an end generally isn't appropriate either. There are cases where I can see censorship being used with valid reason.

Unfortunately, in reference to SOPA, we're seeing an unreasonable request to have mass censorship without approval from the population it would affect. It is a means to an end for anybody who wants to get back at another person. It isn't written in such a way that limits its power and use. So I believe, at least.
